ShowBox is the go to app for a very large number of people around the world when it comes to streaming latest movies and TV shows. The app as well as the service behind it suffered a major glitch in November last year, fueling speculations it may have been shut down due to legal issues.

Though there were indeed some legal problems, the app/service managed to stay alive, and has been up since December mid. There, however, have been frequent glitches and outages, that ShowBox developers have publicly acknowledged and addressed in the recent past.

Turns out the glitches and outages are still ongoing in some regions as ShowBox developers have issued a statement on social media regarding this. Taking to Twitter a few hours ago, the devs said:

If you are having troubles with the #Showbox app then it could be down to your region because our servers have been fragile lately, also thanks for the continued support!

So as you can see, the statement suggests ShowBox developers have been getting reports of service outage from some regions, and their investigations revealed server issues.

Curiously, the developers didn’t say if and when these issues will be fixed. Lets hope these server problems get resolved sooner than later.

Is ShowBox legal?

This is an important question. Given that the developers themselves revealed there were legal issues due to which the service went down, legality of the service is an important point to discus.

We earlier came out with an in-depth story titled ‘Using ShowBox (and similar apps) can result in lawsuit‘. To quickly summarize:

After ShowBox again started working following a major issue in late November, the team shared there were some legal issues.

Greetings everyone that has supported our APK for many years. Show Box has unfortunately been undergoing some legal issues which has concluded in our services being declined

Although the service is working normally (although with minor hiccups) for weeks now, team ShowBox had already made it clear after the November issue that similar problems may arise again.

We have been working on our servers for #Showbox everyday and they have improved massively! Our services should be staying around for a while longer ? If we get into any trouble we will post here. Thanks for the support!

For those who aren’t aware about the legal issues ShowBox has been involved in, back in may this year, a bunch of movie studios – including Dallas Buyers Club, Cobbler Nevada, and Bodyguard Productions – filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the founder as well distributors of ShowBox, including websites like showboxappdownload.co, Showboxappdownload.com, and Showbox.en.uptodown.com/android.

While a lot happened in between, the latest development in this case came just in the second half of November when it was reported that ShowBox distributors have settled the lawsuit with movie studios.

Although terms of the settlement remain unknown at the moment, one change is clearly visible: the websites promoting the app/service have started showing a blunt warning that ShowBox isn’t something users can trust when it comes to copyright protected movies/media.
