It came as a surprise when Samsung released the Galaxy M20 Android 10 update in mid-December 2019, even ahead of some notable mentions like the Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9.

Typically, Android vendors prioritize new and premium devices ahead of older and entry-level devices when it comes to rolling out software updates. But the Galaxy M20 and even M30 picked up the OS ahead of their premium counterparts.

This, however, was only limited to select markets, although the rollout has been spreading gradually to other markets, the latest being Europe.

The Galaxy M20 Android 10 update first rolled out to model SM-M205F sold in India, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, and even Turkey before Vietnam’s model SM-M205G joined the party. Next to get it was model SM-M205FN, but this was only recorded in Russia.

Fast-forward over a month later, the rollout is now ongoing widely in more European markets where model SM-M205FN is sold. So far, the OS has been spotted in Germany, Luxembourg, and Greece, with those in the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Caucasus Countries expected to get it soon.

The incoming Galaxy M20 Android 10 update has software version M205FNEEU3CTA3 and bundles the newer January 2020 security patch. Not the latest version available, sure, but everyone will be busy getting to know the new One UI 2.0 to realize that the patch is a month old.

On the brighter side, those who picked up the One UI 2.0 update on their Galaxy M20 units towards the end of last year had the older December security patch, so you are better off with the newer January patch.

It will take some time before all European variants of the Galaxy M20 receive the OTA download notification. You can always wait, but if you cant, check out Frija – the best tool to find, download and install (manually) the latest firmware on any Samsung device.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
