Xiaomi unveiled the latest iteration of its skin — MIUI 12.5 last year with an aim to boost optimization and stability.

MIUI 12.5 was under development until recently. Xiaomi has now finally commenced its rollout, but only within the Chinese borders.

The likes of Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 11, and Mi 9SE are the first three devices from Xiaomi to bag the MIUI 12.5 update.

Next up, according to one of the Xiaomi-centric Telegram channels, is Redmi Note 8. This is a little weird as Xiaomi had initially aimed the stable update for only the top-end devices and only in China.

Redmi Note 8 on the other hand has only been upgraded to MIUI 12.5 as a Closed Beta update in China. There’s still uncertainty on the timeline of the stable update.

The more surprising bit is that the Android 11-based stable update is rolling out in India.

Anything that Xiaomi develops is, most of the time, first tried and tested on Chinese counterparts before rolling it out globally.

This news about Redmi Note 8’s MIUI 12.5 update is making the rounds on Telegram that appears to be a piece of misleading news. Here’s why we think so.

When observed carefully, it was found that the downloading link embedded in the announcement redirects us to Youtube, which clearly makes it an April Fool’s Day gag.

In a fresh announcement from a more authentic Telegram channel, it has been stated that this news is completely false as Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12.5 is still under development.

Hello redmi note 8 users,

MIUI 12.5 not released yet for your device, It is still in testing so wait for the Official announcement.

Thank you for understanding!

This prank led Redmi Note 8 to falsely believe that the update is actually rolling out. But now with Xiaomi’s alleged statement and our own assessment, it has been concluded that the news is fake.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 users are advised not to fall for this trap and rest assured, MIUI 12.5 with Android 11 may soon arrive via official channels.

And well, this just doesn’t stop here as yet another April fool’s day gag related to Xiaomi is making the rounds on the internet.
