Redmi K20 Pro might contain the DNA of Pocophone F1, and the former successfully built a cult following. Albeit the higher than expected price tag created some hiccups, Xiaomi was able to elaborate their intention to fans regarding reduction of the petty cost-cutting factors and redefining the affordable flagship genre.

Premium build quality – check, AMOLED display panel – check, state of the art mechanical selfie camera – check. As you can see, the Chinese OEM was so much eager to fill the void that was not addressed in the era of Poco F1.

Another segment I should highlight is the first paced software updates. From Android Q beta enrollment to weekly test builds of MIUI based on Android 10, Redmi K20 Pro is always at the pole position. Xiaomi even rolled out the stable Android 10 update for the phone on the same date as that of Google Pixel family.

The thing is, those builds were silently pulled back. We are not sure about the exact reason(s), but some Chinese units reportedly got a newer soak build as the stable update a few days ago.

Well, the speculations seem right. A handful of Indian Redmi K20 Pro owners are finally getting the Android 10 update in the form of a completely new build. Presumably this is just the beginning of the actual broader rollout.

Apart from the regular “This is Android 10!” screaming, the changelog mentions improvements related to 32 bit apps crashing. They also patched the full screen gestures so that the phone does not reboot accidentally.

The security patch level of this software build is 05 September 2019 (kind expected). System-wide dark mode is also working fine. Let me remind you – this is still MIUI 10 – albeit we already captured a ‘closed’ MIUI 11 update for Mi 9 earlier today.
