Samsung will be upgrading some of its devices in the Galaxy A series with three Android OS versions.

The Galaxy A51, Galaxy A51 5G, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A71 5G, and Galaxy A90 5G, for instance, will all receive three Android OS updates during their lifetime. This is a good thing, if you ask me.

A significant departure from the 2 OS update policy and one that many had been asking for years. Samsung has also stepped up its efforts as far as timely monthly security updates are concerned.

A couple of weeks ago, the Galaxy A50 scored the latest October security patch, becoming the first Android device – even ahead of Google Pixels – to bag this update.

Unfortunately, Samsung has been, for the most part, unable to replicate this form when it comes to major Android or One UI updates. As of this writing, for instance, no Samsung device has the stable Android 11 update.

Worse off are those on the Verizon variant of the Galaxy A50. As it stands, not even the One UI 2.1 update is available for this particular variant. In fact, no U.S. variant of the A50 has seen this update.

Meanwhile, the One UI 2.1 and even One UI 2.5 update is already available for multiple Samsung devices in other regions. When exactly Verizon or rather U.S. variants of the A50 will receive either remains unknown.

A while back, One UI 2.1 was touted to arrive in Q3 2020 and with that dead and gone, it remains anyone’s guess. On the brighter side, it doesn’t look like the wait will be too long.

Thanks to a Redditor (matthewreiter73), we have what we believe is the next major update for the Galaxy A50 on Verizon, possibly One UI 2.1. Currently, the device is sitting on build number BTH3 based on One UI 2.0.

Courtesy of the CheckFirm app, it looks like a new build CTJ2 is now available for this variant, albeit as a test firmware. The change in build number versions obviously suggests a major update is coming.

And since the device is already on Android 10 and the update to Android 11 is still far, we may as well see the One UI 2.1 update pushed to the Galaxy A50 in the U.S. very soon.

Heck, make it One UI 2.5 and the whole world will be happy. Of course, this is wishful thinking at this point, but yeah, One UI 3.0 update based on Android 11 is coming to this device. See the full list of eligible devices here.

We also have a tracker of all Galaxy devices that have received the One UI 3.0 update so far, check it out here. For those on Verizon and other carrier variants, we also have a dedicated Android 11 tracker here.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
