Motorola’s update graph hasn’t been appreciated ever since Lenovo took over. Delays in the Android OS and monthly updates, have been pretty common. While OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, vivo, Realme, and Asus are already testing the upcoming Android 11, Motorola is missing in action.

Leave aside Android 11, many of their eligible devices are still gawking the Android 10/Q. But the wait has now ended at least for one of the devices, as the OEM has decided not to upgrade the phone, and let it consume the rotten Pie while others savor Android 10 or the yet-to-be-released Android 11.

The device in question here is the Moto Z3 Play.

Unlike the Moto G lineup, Moto Z squad is usually offered two major OS updates. But the usual may not always be practiced. And something similar is happening with the Z3 Play, the device which received Pie as its first major OS update and was expected to get Android 10 somewhere in April.

But that never happened. And now, it’s coming to light that after testing Z3 play, it has been decided to rather not update it to Android 10. The information came from Motorola Brazil support on Twitter while reverting back to those inquiring, and here’s what they had to say (translated from Portuguese):

After the tests carried out by our engineers, this device will remain with Android 9 (Pie).

A quick look at the official device software update page also conveys the phone will now be staying on Android Pie. Sad, but that’s how it currently stands.

So those of you who’ve been waiting for the Android 10 to hit your Z3 Play unit, you may either settle for the custom ROMs or go ahead and get yourself a new device, as there’s no official Android 10 update on cards for the phone now. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted in case there is any change in the company’s plan.
