LG has one of the worst track records in software updates among the top 10 smartphone vendors in the world. The Korean company is one of the few that cares less about rolling out monthly security updates, sometimes not even to its flagship phones.

Samsung is always on the receiving end of harsh software update reviews, but honestly, the global smartphone leader is doing just fine in this regard. For instance, the company’s Galaxy S8 and S9 series are among the flagship devices still receiving monthly updates, be it carrier or unlocked models.

On the other hand, the same can hardly be said of the LG V30 that shares the same chipset as the Galaxy S8 or even the newer LG G7 ThinQ that is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, the same SoC used in the Galaxy S9.

This is reason enough to get excited about any software update that is pushed to an LG device. The latest beneficiary is the LG G7 ThinQ, which is receiving a new software update in multiple markets with the September 2019 security patches on board.

The latest LG G7 September update is arriving on T-Mobile units in the U.S., European variants as well as in South America, Brazil to be more precise. Apart from the latter market, the other regions’ updates are based on Android 9 Pie.

Where those in Europe should receive the LG G7 September update as version V20d, those using the device on T-Mobile are receiving the same update as version V20e. The build number (PKQ1.181105.001) and kernel version (4.9.112) is the same for both updates.

On the other hand, the Brazilian model is still based on Android Oreo, the OS that powers the G7 ThinQ out of the box. The update to Android Pie has been around for a while now, but it seems it’s still on its way to South America.

Those in Brazil are receiving the LG G7 September update as version V10a with build number OPR1.170623.032 and kernel version 4.9.65.

The G7 September update is arriving in all regions/variants as an OTA. This means it may take several days before all units join the party, so stay cool as you wait for the update to arrive on your unit.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
