On December 22, the calendar marked the year’s shortest day, making it the longest night of 2023. With daylight fleeting quickly on this day, the shutterbugs didn’t get enough time to capture pictures in daytime. However, the extended night provided plenty of time to explore the camera capabilities in a low-light environment. And Google used this opportunity to show off the Night Sight on the Google Pixel phones.
Night Sight capabilities on Google Pixel phones
Google Pixel phones are known for their camera capabilities, especially the night mode. The company offers various camera settings for night photography, including features such as Astrophotography. This mode enhances images taken in dimly lit environments by capturing multiple frames at varying exposure levels and then merging them.
The night mode on Pixel phones enhances the image processing for strikingly clear, detailed, and noise-free photos. Moreover, the recent integration of AI has further optimized the night mode on Pixel devices. And to show off the capabilities of the night mode on Pixel phones, Google used the shortest day of the year.
We tested out the night mode on Google Pixels
Our team also conducted a thorough examination of Night mode in low-light conditions, and the results were nothing short of impressive. With Night mode activated, the images we captured were sharper, brighter, and packed with remarkable detail. This feature remarkably preserves color accuracy and ensures that photo quality isn’t degraded even in the most challenging lighting scenarios.
For a more in-depth look into the Night Sight feature on Google Pixel phones, you can check out our YouTube video. We captured several images with Night mode both enabled and disabled. The video showcases the capabilities of Night Sight across Pixel devices side by side.
Not only images, but now you can also improve the quality of your videos that are shot at night on the Pixel 8 Pro using Video Boost. Google introduced a prompt within the Pixel Camera app that asks you to enable Video Boost when shooting in low-light environments. But there are some limitations of this feature, including long processing time.
That said, Google Pixel phones offer an array of features that drastically improve the quality of images and videos taken at night.
