Ever since its rollout in October 2023, Google’s Android 14 update has been a source of frustration for some Pixel phone owners. We reported about a widespread green screen issue that plagued some Google Pixel devices back then, causing displays to exhibit a strange green tint under certain conditions. While Google initially did not publicly acknowledge the issue, a November 2023 update included a fix – but only for the Pixel 7 Pro model. This left users of other Pixel devices disappointed, leading to ongoing reports of the problem into early this year.
Fortunately, Google has finally (hopefully) delivered a more comprehensive solution in the latest March 2024 update. The update’s changelog, which tags along 34 bug fixes and performance enhancements, specifically mentions a fix targeting the green screen issue affecting a wider range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro.
This delayed but welcome fix indicates that Google has been working behind the scenes to identify and address the source of the green screen problem. The limited scope of the initial November patch raised questions about the issue’s complexity and whether a broader solution across multiple devices was possible. This rollout provides answers to these questions, at least on paper.
The March 2024 update demonstrates Google’s continued commitment to refining the user experience for Pixel owners. While the initial oversight was frustrating, this latest comprehensive fix should hopefully provide peace of mind to users of various Google Pixel devices affected by the persistent green screen issue.
