The latest Android 14-based November security update will be rolling out to all eligible Google Pixel devices in the coming days following Monday’s release. Besides the new security patch level, the update also fixes a couple of annoying display issues affecting some Google Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro owners.

The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are receiving their first software update since launching a month ago. The November update is also likely the last official release for the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5, but none of the 7 bugfixes targets the 2020 duo. The biggest bugfix the update brings to Google Pixel phones addresses the issue causing devices with multiple users enabled to show out of space or be in a reboot loop. This issue basically rendered affected devices unusable, which is great to see Google move in swiftly to fix it.

November update fixes Pixel 7 Pro green flash issue

Another glaring glitch the update also fixes is the green flash affecting the Google Pixel 7 Pro. The changelog specifically mentions the Pixel 7 Pro, which is strange given the number of reports coming from people using other Pixel devices. The Pixel subreddit and official Google Pixel forum have reports from Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a owners experiencing the green flash on their screens. But at this time, it’s unknown whether the green flash fix will extend to other Pixel phones, though I hope it does since the Pixel 7 Pro isn’t the only affected phone.

I haven’t encountered anyone confirming the update indeed fixes the green flickering issue on the Pixel 7 Pro despite Google’s claims. So be sure to let us know in the comments if the November update fixes the issue for you.

Pixel 8 screen scrolling issue also gets a fix

The second display glitch is specific to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Soon after launch, we highlighted the issue with micro stutters and jittering when scrolling on the Pixel 8, something that seems to have quickly picked up Google’s attention. After the November update, Pixel 8 and 8 Pro owners should no longer experience the screen jerkiness or jittering issue causing touch registration to become imprecise.

But like the green flash glitch on the Pixel 7 Pro, I’m yet to see reports from Pixel 8 owners confirming the November update indeed fixes the annoying screen scrolling problems. It shouldn’t be long before we find out, though.

Below is a list of all the bugs the November update fixes on various Google Pixel devices:

      Display & Graphics:
  • Fix for issue occasionally causing a green flash when the display is turning off in certain conditions (Pixel 7 Pro)
    1. NFC:
  • Fix for issue occasionally causing NFC and related services to have instability in certain conditions
    1. System:

  • Fix for issue occasionally causing devices with multiple users enabled to show out of space or be in a reboot loop (Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Tablet, Fold, Pixel 8 & 8 Pro)
    1. User Interface:
  • Fix for issue occasionally causing desktop icons to disappear after unlocking device
  • Fix for issue occasionally causing the wallpaper to be misaligned for devices with a notch or hole punch camera
    1. Touch:
  • Fix for issue occasionally causing screen jerkiness when touch registration becomes imprecise (Pixel 8 & 8 Pro)
