Tipster AssembleDebug has unearthed a hidden gem nestled within the Files by Google app – a powerful new search refinement system waiting to be unleashed. While not yet visible to users, this interesting feature was manually enabled in the background, hinting at Google’s plans to transform how we navigate our digital clutter.

Currently, searching within Files by Google offers basic filters like file type and size. But the upcoming upgrade promises a significant leap forward, introducing two key chips:

Category: Here you’ll get to choose the file type that you wish to search for. Tapping on it will bring up the following options: Images, Videos, Audio, Documents & other.

Date: Sorting the search results with the date option is pretty much self-explanatory. The app will throw up the following options: Any time, Today, Yesterday, Last week, Last month, and Custom range.

Earlier today, the tipster also revealed the addition of RCS chat colors that can be tweaked and synced for both parties in the Google Messages app.
