Offering a unique blend of audio, video, and text chat, the popular communication platform Discord has become a bustling hub for communities, gamers, and friends alike.

However, occasional bugs and issues end up spoiling one’s experience.

For instance, we recently highlighted the issues where Discord was detecting ‘Everything’, a Windows search app, as a Steam game and the desktop app was using too much RAM or experiencing a memory leak.

Now, it appears that a new one has joined the list.

Discord ‘AMOLED mode’ broken or not working on Android

Fresh reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) suggest that multiple Discord users are facing an issue where the AMOLED mode is broken or not functioning as expected on Android devices.

Even though the option to enable or disable the mode is still there in the app’s settings, activating it does not apply the AMOLED theme.

The bug has even made a few speculate that the theme might have been removed by the developers.

On the other hand, some argue that certain areas of the app, such as the member list and server folders, are still utilizing Amoled mode. This suggests that the feature has not been completely removed but is rather broken.

People have observed that the theme stopped working as soon as they installed the latest beta update for the Android app.

Individuals have also shared instances where enabling the mode would only modify the appearance of the bottom navbar and the text in the settings page.

I’m not sure if there was a very recent update, but just about a half hour ago the AMOLED Dark mode stopped working? I’m currently on version 189.6 beta, on Android, and whether it’s enabled or not it’s the usual “grey” dark mode.

There is no point in amoled mode if it’s not black as it no longer saves battery on devices with amoled screens, hopefully this isn’t intentional.

According to allegations, the issue popped up after the recent app update and remains unresolved until now.

Some have even tried following the common troubleshooting steps like clearing the app cache and restarting, uninstalling, and reinstalling the app, but to no effect.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that the AMOLED mode is still an experimental feature, so issues can pop up occasionally.

Fortunately, the Discord support team on Twitter has responded to the matter and stated that the necessary information will be passed on to the concerned team.

Potential workaround

Luckily, we have come across some potential workarounds that might help solve your problem. Firstly, it is advised that you try changing the app’s theme to regular dark and then back to the ‘AMOLED’ one.

If that doesn’t work for you, then you can try downgrading to an older app version.

08:45 am (IST): More Discord app users are reporting that the AMOLED mode is broken (only some parts of the UI are displayed in ‘Black AMOLED’) or not working for them now (1, 2, 3).

04:52 pm (IST): Discord support has confirmed that they are aware of this issue and said that this can happen as the feature is still ‘experimental’. Moreover, there is no ETA for a fix.
