Update 01/05/26 – 09:04 am (IST): Recent reports suggest the “Content Moderated” wall is lifting, with users confirming that NSFW edits are working again, specifically within the “Imagine” tab.

The fix remains inconsistent for now, however, as moderation filters reportedly still trigger when attempting edits through chat or agentic modes.

Original article published on April 30, 2026, follows:

Grok users are suddenly slamming into “Content Moderated” walls when trying to edit their AI-generated images. The block affects both explicit and completely harmless prompts, essentially breaking a core feature for subscribers paying $30 for a three-month Premium tier just to access the image tools.

After reading through a flood of complaints on Reddit, it seems the issue started rolling out a few hours ago. People can still generate fresh images from scratch. But the moment they open the canvas to modify an existing generation, the system locks them out and flags the content.

It does not seem to matter if the characters are fully clothed or if the edit is minor.

One user noted they were just trying to keep a character’s look consistent across different scenes, but the system now blocks almost every attempt. Another user pointed out that they could add clothes to a generated figure, but could not take them off again.

People are incredibly annoyed. A lot of users immediately assumed xAI was quietly enforcing stricter censorship rules.

Given the recent history, they aren’t even wrong to assume so. We’ve previously highlighted the removal of Grok’s NSFW preference toggle last month. Shortly after that, paying users realized their extended NSFW videos were vanishing without warning. Then came the terrifying CSAM block messages that locked people out of their accounts entirely by mistake.

It is starting to look like xAI is constantly breaking things while trying to fix its moderation filters. Elon Musk previously stated that the AI only refuses illegal requests and adapts to local laws, but the actual user experience is currently a mess.

In fact, xAI’s effort to crack down on NSFW generations started before all of this, back when the company was in the spotlight for Grok digitally undressing women. Following the immense backlash, xAI rushed to heavily censor Grok’s image generation capabilities.

That said, some users believe it is just a bug tied to a new beta Agent feature xAI is rolling out. A screenshot of an alleged support ticket shared by one affected account holder backs this up. The support response claims the team is aware of the moderation issue on image edits and expects it to be resolved shortly.

Still, it’s unclear where exactly this “support” message was shared. X doesn’t offer any live chat support. So I’d take this screenshot and information with a grain of salt.

We have not seen an official timeline for that fix yet. If you rely on Grok for image editing workflows, your best bet is to pause your projects and wait it out.
