If you’ve been digging through Grok’s settings looking for the NSFW toggle, you’re not finding it. And you’re not the only one.
One user on Reddit highlighted this a few hours ago. They pointed out that the option to “allow” NSFW content is simply gone. “It’s over, gentlemen. Owari da,” the original poster wrote.
Others in the thread backed it up, including one user who specified this isn’t just a regional thing. They’re from the US, using the browser version, and the setting is gone there too.
I checked it out myself. The option is missing from both the Grok Android app and the web version at grok.com. Interestingly, I still see the option labeled as “NSFW Preferences” in the Grok app for iOS.
Tapping on this redirects to a URL (grok.com/user-feature-controls-static) with parameters like always_show_nsfw_content=true and enable_nsfw=true, rather than a proper in-app toggle. But I could still toggle on and off the NSFW Preferences from the link.
That said, the removal of the toggle doesn’t appear to have affected Grok’s ability to actually generate NSFW or nude content yet. At least for users in regions where xAI hasn’t been legally restricted from showing adult content (like India), Grok still seems to comply with those kinds of requests. The setting being gone is the issue here, not the output.
For context, Grok has been in an awkward spot with adult content for a while. It all started when reports about Grok digitally undressing women in replies hit headlines around the world in late December, and it continued to be in the news cycle for weeks.
In response, X started moderating Grok’s image generations in replies in mid-January. Following that, xAI also started heavily moderating Grok’s image and video generations. Complaints about the strict moderation with Grok have only grown since then. A quick look at the r/grok subreddit will show dozens of moderation complaints coming in every week.
If you follow this pattern, it’s clear that xAI is slowly but surely tightening Grok’s ability to generate nudity. Removing the settings toggle is a step further than anything that came before.
Apart from this, we reported that Ask Grok, the @mention feature on X, is now behind a paywall, with free users getting a subscription prompt instead of a response. One thing after another.
There’s no official word from xAI or X on the NSFW settings removal at the time of writing. We’ll update this if that changes.
