If you’re a Pixel Watch 1 or 2 owner who has been eagerly waiting for the Wear OS 5 update, you may have noticed something troubling — your smartwatch could be stuck on a blank screen after the September OTA update. And guess what? Google has noticed it too.

In an official acknowledgment, Google paused the rollout of Wear OS 5 to the Pixel Watch 1 and 2 after reports surfaced of users facing this frustrating issue. As of September 26, 2024, Google decided to put the brakes on the update, but don’t worry — it’s not gone forever. The team is working hard to squash the bugs, and the rollout is expected to resume “later this year.”

They plan to resume the Wear OS 5 rollout as soon as they’ve “mitigated the observed issues.” But until then, it looks like we’ll have to be patient. The good news? Google has committed to keeping everyone updated with progress reports.

If you’re experiencing this issue after installing the September update, you can try resetting your Pixel Watch to factory settings. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following resources:

Even though Wear OS 5 is on hold for now, Google has been rolling out other cool updates to keep Pixel Watch users engaged. Recent updates include battery full notifications and a revamped charging screen that gives you more info at a glance, including alarms, the month, and the date. So while we wait for the big Wear OS 5 rollout to resume, at least there are small but meaningful improvements trickling in.

Oh, and if you’re eyeing a Pixel Watch 2, Amazon has it at $50 off — something to consider while we wait for everything to get sorted.
