In a surprising turn of events, case manufacturer Thinborne has seemingly confirmed long-standing rumors about the design of Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series. The company provided cases to Android Central for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, with a listing for the base Pixel 9 on their website, suggesting that Google is indeed planning a three-model lineup this year.

The cases reveal a design evolution from the Pixel 8 series. While the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro featured flat displays with rounded edges, the Pixel 9 series is expected to take this a step further with completely flat side rails. However, the corners remain smooth, indicating that Google isn’t going for a boxy look.

One of the most significant revelations is the size difference between the models. Comparing the Pixel 9 Pro case to the Pixel 7a suggests that both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro could be as compact as last year’s budget model, as noted by the publication. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro XL case hints at a device slightly taller than the current Pixel 8 Pro.

The cases also showcase the trademark Pixel camera bar, but with a notable change. Instead of the edge-to-edge bar seen on previous models, the Pixel 9 series is expected to feature a rounded oblong island.

Interestingly, Thinborne also lists a case for the Pixel Fold 2, Google’s second-generation foldable. However, rumors suggest it might launch as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, integrating it into the main Pixel lineup.

While these leaks seem credible given the high costs associated with case manufacturing, it’s always wise to take such information with a grain of salt until Google makes an official announcement. The Pixel 9 series is expected to launch in October, following Google’s typical release schedule.
