In May, Apple introduced the iPadOS 16.5 update, which brings a number of new features and improvements. However, the recent patch has introduced some bugs as well.

For instance, we recently covered the issues where the right side of the Google search results page turned blank and Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter won’t charge an iPad after installing this update.

iPadOS 16.5 severe battery drain issue

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple iPad owners are experiencing battery drain issues after installing the iPadOS 16.5 update.

As per the claims, the battery’s charge completely depletes within a single day, and that too when the device is not in use.

This is undeniably bad news for those who rely on their iPad for day-to-day activities or official work for extended periods.

One of those affected says that the battery of their iPad Air 3rd generation drains quickly due to the mail app’s background activity. And this happens even when the auto-sync feature has been disabled.

Another user alleges that their unit’s battery lasts for only four hours when they are watching something on the VLC app.

The ipad is experiencing battery drain ever since it updated to 16.5 . Any one else experiencing the same !!!?? Also is there any way out !!?? I am student and use it occasionally.

Does anyone else have awful battery life? If I’m watching something in VLC on speaker in daylight I’ll get maybe 4 hours ish battery life.

Interestingly, another user claims to be facing this issue because of the Apple Pencil that they had attached to their iPad.

Some have even tried tinkering with multiple settings and restarting their units, but to no avail. And understandably, those affected are now requesting the developers to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Potential workaround (Battery Drain)

Unfortunately, Apple has not officially responded to the matter. But we did come across a potential workaround that might help solve your problem.

It is recommended that you detach your Apple Pencil from the affected iPad when not in use until the issue gets fully resolved.

Problem solved guys, thank you for your tips. I tried detaching apple pencil and that worked. It only dropped 1 percent. Thank you again!
