In the world of technology, Apple has always been at the forefront of innovation. One such product that has gained significant popularity is the Apple ‘Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter.’

This small yet powerful accessory has revolutionized the way users connect their cameras and other USB devices to their iOS devices, opening up a world of possibilities for creativity and productivity.

It allows you to transfer photos and videos from your camera directly to your iOS device, eliminating the need for a computer as an intermediary.

Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter not charging

However, if you own an iPad or iPhone and use the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, you may have encountered a problem after updating to iOS 16.5 (1,2).

According to several users across various forums and websites, the adapter no longer accepts the Lightning port side for charging anymore.

USB side is operational, however the iPad or iPhone does not recognize the power source when inserted into the adapter. These devices, on the other hand, respond to charging via direct connection without the use of an adapter.

This issue is likely due to a software bug that affects some iPad and iPhone devices that have been updated to iPadOS 16.5 as the bug does not seem to affect older versions of iPadOS or iOS.

The bug also does not affect the functionality of the adapter for data transfer or accessory connection, only for charging.

Updated to 16.5 today. My 7th gen iPad is used for midi music apps. I have an apple usb lightning camera adapter with charging. The charging port will not work for the iPad anymore.

I have an iPad Pro 11 inch 3rd gen running iPadOS 16.4.1(a). About forty days ago, I started having problems charging through my built-in USB-C port, but it charges fine through my Magic Keyboard. Other peripherals work fine on it, and it will charge when cabled to my MacAir, but not when I plug the same cable into a 65w USB-C charger.

Fortunately, there is a solution that has been confirmed by several users to work: updating to iOS or iPadOS 16.6 beta 2.

If you do not want to update to a beta version of iPadOS or iOS, you can wait for the official release, which is expected to arrive later this month or in early July.

Apple has not confirmed a specific date for the release yet, but it usually releases new software updates shortly after testing them with developers and public beta testers.
