Here’s the crux of the article in video form:
Destiny 2 recently received a major update that brought along some annoying issues related to audio and stability, especially for console players (Xbox and PlayStation).
Soon after the patch, players started complaining about stereo audio being broken which led to a crackling or muffled sound. On top of that, turning on 3D audio also resulted in repeated crashes in raids like Kings Fall.
And now, it seems that the same audio issues are affecting the Pit of Heresy dungeon as well.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy crashing
Some Destiny 2 players on Xbox and PlayStation consoles are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) an issue where entering the Pit of Heresy dungeon keeps crashing or freezing the game. These crashes may occur in the same spot each time.
A few gamers confirm that the issue generally happens at the beginning of the dungeon when entering the depths of the moon. Those who were able to enter the dungeon claim that the game also crashes in other areas.
Before the game shuts down, players may also experience various stuttering, freezing, and audio-related issues.
For anyone who has done Pit with this reset, is it possible to even complete it currently? Reason I ask is because it is freezing, losing audio, and then the game crashes for me.

Whenever my friend and I load into Pit of Heresy both of our games freeze, unfreeze with no audio, then crash, especially in “The Pit” checkpoint.

This bug is incredibly annoying as it’s currently preventing many from progressing further in the game. Affected gamers have taken to social media to raise their concerns about the same.
Looking at the reports, it seems that the problem is triggered by the audio bugs introduced with the last major update. Fortunately, there are some workarounds to fix the issue.
Potential workarounds
According to some, turning off ‘3D Audio’ from the game’s settings can help mitigate the issue for the time being. This has reportedly helped some affected players to complete the dungeon without issues.
If this doesn’t solve the problem, turning off SFX can also act as a workaround as allegedly the hive ambient noises are responsible for the game crashing.
It’s an issue with hive ambient noises. Happens in kings fall too. Turn your audio SFX to 0 and you won’t crash

In case none of these work, you can try turning off master volume for a potential fix.
We hope Destiny 2 developers are able to find the root cause behind the issue and fix it at the earliest. We’ll keep an eye on this matter and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.
