Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 20, 2023) follows:

The Destiny 2 player community is one of the largest and most active today. The dev team recovered from a rough start by changing the business model and offering constant updates.

A few hours ago, Destiny 2 got a new ‘mid-season’ patch with multiple tweaks and additions. However, it seems that the update also brought severe sound issues.

More specifically, many Destiny 2 players are currently dealing with a bug where the stereo audio sounds crackling and muffled.

Destiny 2 ‘stereo audio or sound bug (crackling & muffled)’ after v7.0.5.0 patch

The audio section in games like Destiny 2 is key to the experience and immersion. It also fulfills a function during combat as it helps to detect potential enemies and dangers.

That said, the latest game patch (v7.0.5.0) is seriously ruining the audio experience for countless players.

According to multiple reports, Destiny 2 stereo audio or sound effects are now crackling, causing noticeable ear discomfort (especially to those who use headphones).

The new update has broken stereo audio for me

today’s update has left the game completely unplayable for me while using my wireless 3D audio headset. It’s like dozens of sounds are being violently compressed on top of each other and shoved through my headset like a cheese grater of noise.

Bungie please acknowledge the audio being bugged

I mean it sounds like I’m playing the game with blown out speakers in a 2001 Honda civic. I see they posted about an issue updating adept raid weapons but there’s been nothing about the audio? I’m on PS5 btw but I see posts from all systems.

Players also claim that the sound quality now is muffled or compressed. The list of problems is completed with irregular volume, stuttering or choppy sound, sound latency or delay, and broken directional audio.

So, basically the whole sound experience of the game has been ruined in every way, which is also reflected in the gameplay.

Issue under investigation, but there is a workaround

Fortunately, players have found a workaround that helps resolve or mitigate the issues.

Basically, the Destiny 2 community recommends turning off the ‘3D audio’ option from the console settings. Some players confirmed that this method helped them, so you can give it a try (1, 2).

The Destiny 2 dev team has acknowledged the bug and is investigating, but there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Hey Johnny! The team is aware and is actively investigating. We hope to have an update soon through @BungieHelp. Appreciate you taking the time to make sure we are aware!

Update 1 (April 24, 2023)

07:00 pm (IST): According to reports (1,2,3), players are angry as there is still no news regarding the patch. They also argue that they should not be required to disable the 3D audio feature in order to avoid being affected.

We will update this story as events unfold in the future.
