New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 8, 2023) follows:

Discord, the popular messaging service, is also widely used by streamers. It even allows you to start a stream directly from the app without resorting to other platforms.

We’ve recently covered some issues related to the Discord ‘streaming’ feature. For instance, the poor video quality some were experiencing, or the ‘Streamer mode’ activating automatically.

Discord

However, in the last few days, multiple Discord users have been reporting an issue where a green bar or banner gets permanently stuck in the UI when watching a stream.

Discord permanent green bar or banner when watching a stream on mobile app

According to multiple reports, the Discord mobile app is currently showing a permanent green bar or banner at the top of the screen while users watch a stream.

The bar in question indicates that the user is watching a stream from a particular channel. This banner should only appear at first and then disappear, but that is not happening.

Flashing banner on mobile app when watching stream

I often watch my friend’s stream through discord on my mobile app and I have no issues making it full screen. Today however there is a constant green bar at the top where it flashes text that read I’m watching Friend’s stream in such and such server

How to get rid of the green bar on top of the screen when watching a stream? It didn’t do this until recently but I can’t get it to go away.

The issue started appearing suddenly a few days ago with no apparent explanation. Both the Android and the iOS app seem to be affected by it.

Also, there is still no workaround to help hide the annoying green bar. Nothing that affected users have tried has helped to resolve the glitch.

Discord

Fortunately, the Discord team is already aware of the issue and working to resolve it. But there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Oh, that’s a bug!! Totally understand the frustration here. This is actually something our team is currently working on. I don’t have an ETA on when it will be fixed, but a patch will hopefully be pushed through soon :0

We will update this story once new developments related to the matter emerge in the future.

Update 1 (March 15, 2023)

10:20 am (IST): There is a potential workaround that could help hide the Discord green bar:

what fixed it for me is turning OFF the Show Non-Video Participants button, then after minimizing the stream and enlarging it again it was gone. I was with only one other person in a VC, so not sure if it works with multiple participants but it’s worth a try.
