Life becomes easy with good virtual or voice assistants and that’s where Google Assistant thrives. It efficiently accomplishes your tasks by simply saying ‘OK’ or ‘Hey’ Google.
But it’s not always as systematic as it should be. For instance, we previously highlighted how it stopped working on Pixel Buds Pro and even the ‘Hey Google’ command also stopped functioning altogether.
Google Assistant not setting timer through voice commands
Some users (1,2,3,4,5) have now been reporting an issue where they are unable to set timers with the help of Google Assistant through voice commands.
Hey Google will not set a timer. It just keeps asking me for how long. Please help me!

Google Assistant doesn’t work correctly from the lock screen doing anything timer related

According to reports, whenever users try to set a timer, Google Assistant sometimes responds by saying ‘Sure, for how long?’ but never actually executes that voice command. In some cases, it just doesn’t set a timer at all.
Users have tried the basic troubleshooting steps to get this functionality to work but to no avail. It is rather rendering a basic function useless.
Some users have also noticed that apart from timers, Google Assistant is also not setting reminders for them.
Moreover, we previously saw a somewhat similar issue where users were unable to set a timer on their Google Home and Nest Hub.
No official acknowledgment
Google hasn’t commented on the issue where the Google Assistant is not setting timers or reminders for some users through voice commands.
However, it is worth noting that a Product Expert on the Google support forum has clarified that the team is currently working towards fixing the issue on Samsung devices.
We also haven’t come across a workaround that can help fix the issue temporarily.
