[Updated] Google Pixel square/rectangular weather widget not clickable after latest update, possible workaround inside

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 25, 2022) follows:

For a few months, Android 12 update has been available for Google Pixel phones. This brought a great redesign and many improvements to enhance the user experience.

Although the update brings more functionality to compatible devices, it also brought a number of bugs/glitches and issues, which we have covered here (1, 2, 3, 4).

Now, according to recent reports, there is an issue related to the weather widget. More specifically, the Google Pixel square/rectangular weather widget is not clickable after a recent Google app update.

Google Pixel square/rectangular weather widget not clickable

According to reports, the functionality of the Google Pixel weather widget was recently affected. However, this seems to happen specifically with the square/rectangular one (1, 2, 3).

Normally, when the user touches the weather widget, it should open an extended section where a more detailed weather report is offered. But, this is not working properly for some.

Currently, when the user of a Google Pixel device touches the weather widget (square/rectangular shaped), nothing happens. However, the issue does not occur if the pill-shaped weather widget is set.

Google weather widget not opening weather.

The large Google weather widget has suddenly stopped opening the Google weather page. The small weather pill still works. I have cleared the cache and rebooted and still the same. Pixel 6pro and 4a.

Not updating weather for some

In addition to the above, some users suffer from sync issues in the widget. Basically, it doesn’t update to the latest weather data.

Same for me. It doesn’t update as it should. 9 out of 10 times I hit it and the temp has changed but the widget hasn’t updated. And that sorry little At a Glance widget that was supposed to be updated – what’s up with that? It has the weather but I need a magnifying glass to see it.

This makes the weather widget useless for affected users, as they cannot see the most up-to-date weather reading without going into the weather app.

Issue related with Google app update, potential workaround

Having said the above, the problems seem to have started with the most recent Google app update. So, as a workaround, it is recommended to roll back the update to v13.1.16 version.

Yes, just came here to post this. The big 4×3 one won’t let me click it. The smaller diagonal one still works though. I tried clearing cache and storage of the Google app with no luck. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling updates too.

I think mine broke a few days ago around a new Google app update. Might try rolling back to a previous version to see what happens.

EDIT: Reverted back to version 13.1.16 and it works again

At the moment, there seems to be no official acknowledgment from Google about the glitch. Once related updates arise, the new information will be added to this article through updates.
