New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on April 13, 2021) follows:

Xiaomi has kickstarted their stable MIUI 12.5 rollouts already firstly with the Mi 10 Ultra and then other flagships like Mi 11, Mi 9 SE, and the Mi 10/10 Pro.

This, however, does not mean that the OEM has done away with their MIUI 12.5 beta program. Beta builds will of course continue to be pushed out at least until MIUI 13 development commences.

Xiaomi recently even started with MIUI 12.6 development now that MIUI 12.5 has hit stable. The update won’t be anything major but one can expect new features from time to time with newer builds.

Anyway, most of the users may already be acquainted with MIUI 12’s horrible performance ever since its rollout. Things took a turn for the worse when Android 11 came into the picture.

The situation got so bad that the head of MIUI R&D recently hosted a Q&A session about some of the major hurdles MIUI has to overcome this year. The head promised that their main focus will be on fluidity and stability henceforth.

While this would lead many to believe that feature additions will now be done away with as MIUI developers prioritize optimization instead, the latest MIUI 12.5 beta 21.4.9 update indicates otherwise.

The beta update brings along some expanded volume panel changes wherein the layout has been slightly updated. The overall aesthetic still remains untouched but some stuff has been moved around to accommodate a new slider.

This slider allows to very conveniently set a timer for MIUI’s silent mode – pretty handy in situations where the phone is required to be quietened down for a short duration of time.

The MIUI 12.5 expanded volume panel did already include a similar slider for the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode but it is great to see that silent mode has now gotten a similar ability.

Of course, this feature will only be officially made available in China for those that are part of the Chinese MIUI 12.5 beta. Still, there is in fact a way for global users to avail it as well.

This can be done through the SystemUI Controls APK. Simply download and install it over your existing SystemUI Controls app to enjoy the updated MIUI 12.5 volume panel.

Do keep in mind though that the APK isn’t exactly guaranteed to be installable. Still, you are free to give it a try through this link.

If it did not work, then worry not, for the MIUI 12.5 stable update should make it your eligible Xiaomi device pretty soon. Be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker to stay in the know.
