[Updated: Apr 06] OnePlus 7 & 7T series users facing Wi-Fi disconnection issue after OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) Open Beta update

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Feb 22, 2021) follows:

Before an OEM rolls out a stable release of a given firmware to its devices, the build has to undergo a number of very important steps, one of the most critical one being the Beta testing phase.

OnePlus, like many other OEMs, has a pretty elaborate way of testing out its software before it is deemed stable enough with its Closed and Open Beta programs.

It is through these tests that various bugs are discovered and addressed.

OnePlus has been working on the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T devices for a couple of weeks now and in the period, we’ve seen two Open Beta builds.

In true Beta build fashion, we’ve seen a number of issues present in these build and some have already been addressed. Some other bugs such as the call audio issue and slow warp charging still persist for some users.

OnePlus is encouraging users who have installed these pre-stable release builds on their OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T devices to report all these bugs and give their feedback.

As it turns out, a whole new batch of users will be giving their negative feedback of these Open Beta builds shortly as they’re facing a pretty serious issue on their devices.

It is now coming to light that users of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T running the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 Open Beta builds are having issues having their devices stay connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The device keeps disconnecting and connecting to the Wi-Fi network randomly. It is annoying at times.

According to these affected users, the Wi-Fi automatically disconnects every 3-5 mins and starts reconnection after 15-20 seconds. Understandably, this is a pretty annoying occurrence that works against the device’s user experience.

There are a bunch of reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) across various forums and communities online from users who are facing this issue.

And at the time of writing, there’s a thread on Reddit addressing this issue and it already boasts of 170+ upvotes which means this issue is pretty widespread.

While this issue was present in the initial OxygenOS 11 Open Beta for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T devices, it doesn’t seem to have been addressed as users are still reporting it on Open Beta 2.

After updating my oneplus 7 to open beta 2 my phone constantly gets disconnected from my wi-fi even when I am in the same room. When I try to reconnect my phone it says ‘saved’ and even after tapping on the wi-fi name one oneplus 7 doesn’t do anything.
Then it gets connected says no internet then gets connected then disconnects and this process continues.

The issue also seems to be affecting users on multiple Wi-Fi routers and various configurations like 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz.

Affected users might want to take account of the fact that this is a Beta build and that there are bound to be issues like these.

The best course of action would be to follow OnePlus’ laid-down procedure for reporting bugs in these Open Beta builds and hope that when the stable build rolls out, this issue will be fixed.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this and many other reported bugs so you might want to stay tuned for that. You might also want to check out our OxygenOS 11 bug and issues tracker.

      Update 1 (March 16)

IST 12:49 pm: Users of the OnePlus 7 and 7T series of devices on OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 3 are still facing an issue with the device’s Wi-Fi stability (1,2,3,4). This means that the issue is yet to be addressed in the said build. Hopefully, this will be sorted out before the stable rollout.

      Update 2 (March 29)

IST 10:49 am: Well, OnePlus recently rolled out the much-awaited OxygenOS 11 update to OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T and still, users are reporting facing this issue (1,2,3,4,5,6).

      Update 3 (April 06)

IST 11:32 am: A user on the community forum has seemingly been able to stabilize the Wi-Fi connection on his OnePlus 7 device. The potential workaround, according to the user, is as follows.

I had this issue on my 7 pro, what I did was:

Settings>wifi>wifi preferences, and turn off “intelligently select the best Wi-Fi.

I’m not sure if this is a new android 11 feature but turning it off stabilized my wifi
