Nearly two years of waiting came to an end this week following the launch of the Poco F2 Pro, a true successor to the Poco F1 aka Pocophone F1 released in August 2018.

The Poco F2 Pro is essentially a rebadged Redmi K30 Pro, which means you are getting yet another beast of a phone. Some highlights include Snapdragon 865, 8GB/256GB memory, 4,700mAh battery, quad-lens 64MP main camera, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The arrival of the Poco F2 Pro also means the Poco F1 is no longer the company’s favorite kid. In fact, the love affair started taking a twist upon the arrival of the Poco X2, a rebadged Redmi K30. But this doesn’t spell the end of the road for Pocophone F1 owners.

Xiaomi is expected to release the Poco F1 MIUI 12 update at some point, but until then owners of the device can make do with a new MIUI 11 update that bumps the security patch level to April 2020.

A similar update rolled out last week, but it only targeted the Russian variant. Today, those on the global ROM can finally install the new security patch, which weighs in at a huge 1.9GB and has MIUI version 11.0.8.0.QEJMIXM.

In an official announcement, Xiaomi notes that the incoming Poco F1 April update is meant for Beta Testers/Mi Pilot members. Essentially, this is a limited rollout, so don’t freak out if you don’t see the OTA notification on your phone by the end of today.

If waiting isn’t your intention, we have the download link needed for manual installation. It’s a recovery file that only needs you to download, save it on your phone’s memory, and upgrade via the MIUI Updater app.

Not long ago, it emerged that the Poco F1 may not get the Vlog mode since it’s nearly two years old. The age factor also comes into play with respect to Xiaomi Android 11 update, but this shouldn’t stop custom ROM developers.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
