Original story (published on April 21) follows:

All recent signs point to an imminent launch of the MIUI 12 update. Prior to this week, it has mostly been more about rumors than facts, but this is no more as Xiaomi has now taken center stage in giving fans a glimpse of what’s coming.

Following the publishing of the MIUI 12 Eligibility test app in the Google Play Store, the company followed it up with a teaser of the said MIUI 12 update alongside a device expected to launch alongside the new software – Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite aka Mi 10 Youth Edition.

This teaser came after Germany’s TUV Rheinland cleared MIUI 12 to signal the imminent launch of the MIUI 11 successor and even before the dust settles, the Chinese vendor is at it once again, this time with a teaser of what it calls MIUI 12 Dark Mode 2.0.

Taking over from the Dark Mode 1.0 that came with MIUI 11, the updated Dark Mode 2.0 reportedly auto-adjust the “weight of text, reduce glare and be extremely intimate” to the users’ needs (eyes).

Based on MIUI11’s original dynamic font system, the system automatically adjusts the font weight in dark mode to reduce glare and blur, and restores normal font weight in light mode to make reading more comfortable!

Xiaomi says the new Dark Mode 2.0 is here to address the Dark Mode 1.0 issue where users have trouble seeing clearly during the day and too dazzling at night by automatically adjusting the contrast and moving with the light to make for an extremely intimate experience.

After the MIUI 12 update, it will be possible to:

1. Open the dark mode and night mode, and automatically adjust the brightness of the screen;
2. Use the color design that meets the WCAG standard, with high color selection contrast and clearer content in bright light;
3. In dark light, intelligently reduce the contrast according to the screen brightness, night Not dazzling.

The company also says the update to MIUI 12 Dark Mode 2.0 will see 42 system application, 20 other mainstream applications as well as multiple third-party apps fully optimized to support a wider and more natural or rather perfect dark mode.

Since wallpapers also affect how good or bad dark mode turns out on a device, Xiaomi’s Dark Mode 2.0 will include mitigations like smart wallpaper dimming for cases where the wallpaper is too bright in dark mode.

At this rate, we may arrive at the launch event with nearly all the details of what’s coming in MIUI 12. Hopefully not for this may just take away all the fun of the event.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem.
