Motorola Moto G6 Android 10 update arrives as LineageOS 17.1; Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Samsung Galaxy A5 & A3 also get support
Motorola came out with Moto G6 in 2018. The handset came with Android 8 and was later upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie. Considering Motorola’s general practice to push only one OS upgrade for the Moto G devices, it is unlikely that the Moto G6 will get Android 10 update.
However, Moto G6 users must not be disappointed as they could still get Android 10 via custom ROM. One such custom ROM (unofficial) that has added Android 10 support for Moto G6 is LineageOS. Developer CodeF86 has added LineageOS 17.1 support for Moto G6.
This unofficial OS (LineageOS 17.1 for Moto G6), which is available for download, is based on the pre-released LineageOS 17. So, users need to be a bit careful. For those sticking with the OS released by Motorola, the company rolled February security patch yesterday carrying the version PPSS29.55-37-7-6.
Separately, LineageOS 17.1 (unofficial) is also available to download for Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. The known bugs for the LineageOS 17.1 for the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium are with WiFi Mac address, Camera / Camcorder, Deep sleep, Wireless Cast, Hardware Encryption and SMS Sending.
Known issues with LineageOS 17.1 for Galaxy A5 and A3 are with IMS services. The developer, however, says that is not possible to port this to Lineage as Samsung has its own proprietary implementation.
Developers of the respective builds have urged users to report any new bug they come across by providing the logcat and detailing the steps to reproduce the bug.
