[Update live globally] Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update resolves Netflix HD issue, but if it’s still not working for you, try this
This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from March 03) follows:
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 Pro is an exceptional device. It is a mid-range smartphone that offers performance similar to any premium phone in the market. The only shortcoming that many may have (or may not have) noticed is the inability to play Netflix HD content.
In reality, unable to play Netflix HD content (and Amazon Prime HD content as well) is not a shortcoming of the device rather an issue with the Widevine implementation.
Xiaomi Indonesia General Manager, Alvin Tse, even acknowledged the Redmi Note 8 Pro Netflix HD issue a few months back while replying to a user tweet. The executive also noted that the issue would likely get resolved with the Android Q update.
Though Xiaomi rolled Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 8 Pro in January, it was only for the Chinese variant. So, it wasn’t clear if the update actually fixed the Redmi Note 8 Pro Netflix HD issue for all users or not.
However, now that Xiaomi has rolled the Android 10 update for most, it appears the issue is fixed. A recent post on Mi Community (India) also admits that the Android 10 update has fixed the Netflix HD content issue for the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
However, even after the Android 10 update, a few Redmi Note 8 Pro users note that they are facing the issue. A Reddit user noted:
Just updated to android 10 and was hoping to finally be able to watch netflix in HD since they said the issue would be fixed with the next android update but its not
If you are also facing the Redmi Note 8 Pro Netflix HD content issue even after updating to Android 10, then don’t worry. You can try a workaround that has worked for many users. All you have to do is uninstall Netflix app and install it again.
This trick has worked for many users, and hopefully, will work for you as well.
