New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 22, 2020) follows:

HMD Global bottled the chance to make a statement by releasing the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 pre-installed with Android Pie instead of Android 10. The duo is yet to receive the update as of this writing, although it shouldn’t be long.

Everyone thought the recent update that rolled out to the pair would finally bring Android 10, but Nokia only managed to include the latest January 2020 security patches.

This effectively meant that the Nokia 7.2 Android 10 update had been delayed. The January patch arrived as version V1.39 and some hours ago, owners of this same device started receiving a mysterious update that can easily be mistaken for Android 10 thanks to its size.

Arriving as version V1.400, the new update weighs in at a massive 1517MB, the size you’d expect to see when the Nokia 7.2 Android 10 update arrives. Only that the incoming OTA is still based on Android Pie.

The same January 2020 security patch is also at play. The changelog also mentions improvements to system stability and enhancements to the user interface. That’s all you get from this huge update, at least going by this changelog.

But why roll out such a huge update with no changes to the base OS? Only HMD knows better. Still, our guess is that the company is just clearing the way for the arrival of Android 10 on the device. Yeah, I know this still doesn’t explain the size of the OTA.

As you can see in the screengrab above, someone else using the Nokia 6.2 apparently received a similar update, so it’s likely that Android 10 is also coming soon to this model. Of course, this is just a hunch and nothing concrete yet, but we’ll keep an eye on the story and bring you updates.

In case the new update hasn’t arrived on your end, below is a link to download the firmware for manual installation.

  • Device: Nokia 7.2
  • Channel: Global Stable
  • Version: V1.400
  • Android: 9
    • Type: Recovery

According to some of those who have received the update, it seems this build has problems with Play Store certifications. For some, it is fixed automatically after a restart, but not for others.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
