New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 15, 2020) follows:

HMD Global revealed its official Android 10 roadmap in August 2019. At the time, the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 were only existing as rumors, but it was only a matter of time before they materialized.

At launch, it was no surprise that both phones came branded with Android One. It’s what you expect from any Android-powered Nokia phone apart from the few Android Go models.

However, what was quite surprising – and disappointing to say the least – was the version of Android out of the box. At a time when Android 10 was already available in stable, the Nokia 6.2 and 7.2 made their debuts with Android Pie pre-installed.

Such a letdown from a company that is trying to keep up with Google in terms of software updates. On the brighter side, though, the devices were promised the the update to Android 10 in January 2020.

With half the month gone, Nokia 6.2 and 7.2 are thinking that the next OTA download notification they receive will bring Android 10 to the devices. But to their surprise, the incoming update has nothing to do with the new OS, instead, it brings an updated January 2020 security patch.

Since the new patch doesn’t bump the devices to the new OS, you still get to deal with Android Pie. As for when the stable Android 10 will arrive, only HMD Global has the answers, but from the look of things, it seems the rollout has been delayed.

On top of the new security patch, the update reportedly fixes the lag when enabling mobile data and probably more bugs, so be sure to grab it once the OTA notification shows up. If it hasn’t arrived by now, you can download the update files below and install manually.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
