New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 16, 2020) follows:

Huawei is by far the most prolific non-Google vendor as far as the number of devices it has upgraded to EMUI 10 update based on Android 10 are concerned.

Among the first devices to receive the stable EMUI 10 update back in November 2019 were the Huawei P30, Mate 20 and their Pro variants. This was expected given the two are among the most recent flagship phones from the company.

The OS started rolling out in Europe to both handsets and even found its way to the Indian Mate 20 Pro, although the rollout in the latter market has since been halted.

Not long ago, we reported about the Huawei P30 Pro EMUI 10 update in the UK. The rollout was spotted on O2, although some SIM-free models of the P30 Pro have also picked up the EMUI 10 update in the same country.

But according to Huawei Mobile UK, not only will the stable EMUI 10 update begin rolling out to the Huawei P30 Pro in February 2020, but also on the Mate 20 Pro.

So, one wonders what some P30 Pro users in the country are receiving at the moment. But to be fair, perhaps the staggered nature of OTA updates is what makes Huawei mention February as the availability date of EMUI 10 update. This is when everyone should have received the update.

Across the Atlantic, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro should be receiving their EMUI 10 update as of this writing. TELUS in Canada has the rollout scheduled for January 15, which was yesterday. Granted, you should see the OTA notification anytime from now, if it hasn’t arrived already.

No Android 10/EMUI 10 update for Honor 7X, Honor 9N

Now for some not-so-good news, Honor India says there won’t be EMUI 10 updates for both the Honor 7X and Honor 9N due to hardware compatibility reasons.

When asked whether the Honor 9N and Honor 7X will receive EMUI 10, this is the response given:

We regret to inform you that EMUI 10.0 / Android 10 will not be available for your device due to hardware limitations as it requires higher hardware specifications for optimal performance. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Honor 7X came preinstalled with Android Nougat, so Android 10 would too much asking from the company for a device of this kind. As for the Honor 9N, it came running Android Oreo and has since been upgraded to Android Pie, so it makes sense that one would want to know about EMUI 10 update.

Quite unfortunate for owners of either device because to get EMUI 10, they will have to upgrade to a newer device like the Honor 9X, which is guaranteed an update to Android 10.

Update 1 (January 20, 2020)

Canadians, more so those on Rogers, are now reporting that Android 10 update is rolling out to the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. The update is arriving as EMUI 10.0.0.178(C792E8R1P3) and weighs in at a gigantic 4.68GB.

The carrier has also updated its OS upgrade schedule to indicate that Android 10 is now available for the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. Someone on TELUS and another on SaskTel also say they got the update on their P30 handsets.

The Mate 20 Pro picked up Android 10 on Rogers yesterday while those on Bell are also reporting that the handset is indeed receiving Android 10. The OTA is arriving as EMUI 10.0.0.182(C792E8R1P5) and weighs in at an even bigger 4.75GB.

Update 2 (February 03)

Update 3 (August 21)

The Honor 9i or Honor 9N has now bagged support for the OpenKirin ROM which brings Android 10 to the device. The ROM comes with a Stock Android user interface. However, there are a few shortcomings with the OpenKirin ROM. See the full story here.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
