Asus ROG Phone 2 DTS audio & headphone incompatibility issues come to light
Soon after the ROG Phone 2 picked up its October security update, Asus opened recruitment into the Android 10 beta program for owners of this gaming handset.
The Taiwanese company has already rolled out the stable Android 10 to the ZenFone 6 and next in line is the ZenFone 5Z, which has already received four public beta updates.
With the beta program now open for ROG Phone II users, we can expect the stable Android 10 to arrive somewhere in early 2020. Until then, Asus may have to take care of a couple of annoying issues that multiple owners of this device are experiencing.
The company has had to address multiple issues since the phone made its debut a while back and apparently, there are two more that are just coming to the company’s attention.
Multiple ROG Phone II owners are reporting that DTS audio is broken in that one has to enable it manually every time they play music. Even more frustrating is that when enabled, it only takes an incoming call to automatically disable DTS audio, requiring manual enabling once again.
i too face this issue. i have to open audio wizard and select the effect to apply it. this issue happens if i play music after long time(few hours) or if i answer a call inbetween.
Going by some of the comments below the above post in the ZenTalk forums, it seems this issue is affecting wired headphones.
Wired headphones…i used Amazon prime music and hungama music app. Also make sure to quit audio wizard after you select a mode… Select a mode while listening songs…quit the audio wizard..ask someone to call you .once call is over listen to same song you will notice DTS x mode is disabled.here you have to go again to audio wizard , click custom to reactivate.
Yes I use Wired headphone, I missed to mention this in my previous note.
As it stands, Asus is still collecting more information on this issue to determine the cause, so be sure to submit a bug report if you are experiencing the DTS audio issue on your ROG Phone 2 so that it can be addressed.
Sticking with audio and wired headphones, some ROG Phone II users say the device suddenly won’t recognize any wired headphones connected through the USB-C port.
At first, the issue was thought to be affecting the company’s ROG Delta USB-C headphones, but then someone else using the ROG Cetra popped up with the same issue.
Hi, I connected My Rog Cetra earphones to My ROG phone 2, and it worked for like 20 min, then suddenly stopped, and when I reconnected The Rog Cetra to my ROG phone 2, my ROG 2 not detecteded it…. I’ve tried other USB-C headphones and the phone is no more able to detect it.
More reports of the device not working with other headphones have since shown up, including even using 3.5mm headphones via a dongle.
My normal oneplus usb headphones also dont seem to be recognised…
I am using rog phone 2 I trying to connect my 3.5 mm jack earphone with rog into side mounted thpe c port via type c to 3.5 mm connector but it doesn’t support. Why
Like the DTS audio issue, Asus has yet to acknowledge the headphone incompatibility issue despite having been around for quite some time now. Nonetheless, we do hope that both issues will be looked into and addressed in the next software update or the one after.
We will follow up on these developments and let you know when Asus fixes the bugs. Meanwhile, stay tuned to our Asus section for more related stories.
