The FCC this week approved the merger between T-Mobile and Sprint, ending months of discussions regarding the coming together of the third and fourth-biggest American carriers.

While it remains to be seen what this merger eventually means to the end-user, another thing that seems unclear is how software updates will be handled going forward. It’s likely that each carrier will stick to its software update plans, but anything could happen in the future.

If you own a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ on T-Mobile, there is a new software update available to download. The update, although released in November, installs the latest October security patch alongside some bug fixes and performance improvements.

The OTA is arriving as software version G960USQU7CSJ2 for the standard S9 and G965USQU7CSJ2 for the S9+ and weighs in at about 385MB, which is pretty heavy for a mere security patch.

Airborne updates can take several days before all units get the download notification. So if your S9 or S9+ hasn’t received the update, stay calm it will arrive soon. The November patch, on the other hand, is already available for the Exynos S9 and S9+ as well as the carrier-branded S10 and Note 10 units.

As you wait for the November security update to arrive, you might want to know that Samsung has started rolling out the renamed Samsung Daily, which was formerly known as Bixby Home.

The company had revealed its plans to rename Bixby Home to Samsung Daily at the Developer conference and now the update is rolling out. As you may have guessed, Samsung Daily now becomes the primary content discovery application on your Galaxy phone.

Like Bixby Home, Samsung Daily will pull information related to news, games, sports, music, video, and even recipes and display it as cards, which makes it easier to interact with on the fly.
