Xiaomi disrupted the way OEMs price their devices. On the other hand, OnePlus started the tradition of bringing flagship chipsets to mid-range smartphones. Other brands had to take the route of these companies to thrive in the market.

Eventually, Xiaomi followed OnePlus, but with a different strategy. They gave birth to a new sub-brand to launch mid-range phones with flagship processors. That’s how we got Poco F1 (outside India, it has the name Pocophone F1).

Poco F1 lends the processing power from Snapdragon 845. Despite offering up to 256 GB onboard storage, memory expansion via SD card is available. You have to sacrifice the SIM slot to do that, though.

On the optics-front, it has a dual rear camera setup and a 20 MP selfie shooter. Coming out of the box with Android 8.1 (Oreo), Poco F1 already received Android 9 (Pie) update. Now, the users are waiting for Android 10 given it arrived on Google Pixels 20 days ago.

It is true that Xiaomi took in beta testers for Android Q. In came Google, eliminating the naming-after-desserts tradition. So technically, what the company will rollout is Android 10 beta (there is no official wording on the release yet).

To recall, the device got September security patch before a week in the form of MIUI 10.3.8.0. It didn’t bring anything new to the plate. And, they skipped August patch altogether.

Cut to now, all the eyes are expecting Android 10. Much to their dismay, Xiaomi published a list of phones eligible for the new OS iteration, which didn’t include Poco F1. Hence, speculations broke out it is not going to get the update.

However, the company chief Alvin Tse has announced on Twitter that the users will get MIUI 11 when it rolls out globally. He didn’t mention any timeframe as to when the OTA goes live.
