With the Redmi K20 Pro already treading on Android 10 stable grounds while the standard Redmi K20 is getting ready to join its counterpart, owners of the budget Redmi Note 7 have been full of questions regarding if and when they will also make the cut.

Sure, Xiaomi is expected to provide a Redmi Note 7 update to bump the software version to Android 10, same as the Note 7 Pro. This will be the first OS upgrade for these devices, which run Pie out of the box, however, we cannot give you an Android 10 release date whatsoever.

Xiaomi is also working to release the stable version of MIUI 11 in the coming days or weeks for that matter. The new skin will replace MIUI 10 on top of Android 9 Pie for most devices, but it’s also expected to keep its place when these devices, including Redmi Note 7, begin receiving Android 10.

Until then, owners of the Redmi Note 7 will keep receiving new software updates with the latest Android security patch alongside new features, bug fixes, performance and stability improvements.

As of this writing, this is the kind of Redmi Note 7 update rolling out globally. The update is arriving as MIUI 10.3.12.0.PFGMIXM and is airborne, meaning some users will have to wait for a few days before receiving the download notification.

We haven’t received reports of actual users receiving the latest Redmi Note 7 update, but the download firmware you need to manually update to the latest version alongside changes the update brings are all at our disposal.

Heres the changelog of the upcoming MIUI 10.3.12 update for your Note 7.

Optimized system performance
Improved system security and stability

While the changelog does mention improved system security – presumably a new security patch level – it doesn’t go into specifics about the date of the security patch. Given the Note 7 already received August security patch, we won’t be surprised if this update brings September patches.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
