New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

I’ve said it time and again that Oppo subsidiary Realme is doing quite a great job with software updates, way better than its mother company. On top of observing timeliness with monthly security patches, Realme has also done a pretty decent job with major OS upgrades.

The company is expected to bring the new Android 10 OS to several of its devices before this year ends, with more to join the party in 2020. It has been claimed that RealmeOS will headline the changes the new OS will bring to Realme devices, but nothing is certain yet.

RealmeOS could replace ColorOS in future Realme phones

For a company that is just over a year old in the market, it’s quite unbelievable that Realme is actually able to do all this. However, the good stuff may soon be muddied by the addition of ads to the otherwise great software.

But then again, with the mega-backing from a big company like Oppo, there’s nothing really that a dedicated team like Realme’s can’t achieve, which is perhaps one of the reasons the company is able to pump new phones into the market at crazy price tags.

Also, the vast availability of resources is what helps Realme deliver timely software updates to these devices. And the latest to benefit from the work of this impressive team are owners of Realme 5 and Realme 2 Pro.

These two are both receiving software updates with September 2019 security patches. We have confirmation that the Realme 2 Pro OTA rollout is already ongoing, installing software version RMX1801EX_11_C.24.

Interestingly, the official Realme 2 Pro software support page says the new update (C.24) has the August security patch, but we all know it is build C.23 that came out a few days ago with last month’s security patch level.

If anything, this should just be a typo that will be corrected later on.

Realme 2 Pro software page has August instead of September patch in the changelog

Unlike the Realme 2 Pro, the incoming Realme 5 software update has more than just the updated September security patch. It is arriving as version RMX1911EX_11_A.13 and even though we cannot verify that the OTA is rolling out, we do have the full changelog with us.

According to the changelog, which was published in the official Realme forums, the new firmware comes with added support for digital wellbeing to the Realme 5. Also part of the update are a bunch of camera improvements and optimizations as listed below.

System

● Improved system stability

● Added Digital Wellbeing

● Optimized the multi-finger touch experience for some third-party apps

Camera

● Improved the clarity and preview effect in portrait mode in night scene

For Realme 5 owners, this is the second software update for the device following the release of August security patch earlier this month.

The two September updates come shortly after the Chinese variant of the Realme 3 Pro (Realme X Lite) started receiving this same security patch. And once again, Realme continues to impress in matters of software updates.

Update (September 17)

Realme 2 Pro users are now getting two updates in a row. The first one brings Wi-Fi security fixes, while the other one contains September security patches. For further details and download link, see here.
