OnePlus started the tradition of bringing flagship processors to midrange devices. Their outrageous success compelled other OEMs like Xiaomi and Asus to do the same. That’s how we got Poco F1 and ZenFone 5Z.

Despite having a decent run with 5Z, ZenFone 6 (Asus 6Z) couldn’t follow the same path of its predecessor. Ever since the launch, we were busy reporting bugs like screen flickering on low brightness level, speaker issues, and flip camera problems.

Asus fans were on cloud nine when the company brought built-in Widevine L1 support. Poco F1 users had to demand the same for months until it accompanied with MIUI 10.3.4.0 stable ROM update. In case you are naive, Widevine L1 ‘usually’ means the device is capable of streaming HD videos.

Guess what? Regardless of the certification, Asus 6Z is having trouble with streaming 1080p (full HD) videos on Netflix. And for Prime Videos, the quality looks poorer than 720p. We could spot multiple threads pertaining to the issue on the official forum.

To recall, the phone got a couple of OTAs last month with stability improvements. Launched in May 2019 with Android 9.0-based ZenUI 6, the phone flaunts Snapdragon 855 chipset inside. As a top-of-the-line smartphone from the brand, there’s nothing wrong in expecting Android 10.

Asus opted for a flip camera setup to avoid notch on top of the screen. It already got them a handful of complaints. To add fuel to the fire, HD streaming issue popped up. You can see the concern of a user below.

Despite being L1 Widevine certified Phone Asus 6z does not support 1080p resolution on Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. Netflix only support 720 HD and there is no way i can check Prime Videos max resolution but it certainly looks even poorer than 720 that may be because Amazon require Mircosoft Playready DRM instead Googles Widevine which Asus 6z does not support.

Under another forum post, an admin confirmed the company is working on the fix. He also added it might not happen in a flash. So, we don’t have any timeframe as to when the solution comes to ZenFone 6.

Brace yourself! We spotted another bug. The device denies to respond on tapping the quick settings toggles. However, it acts as it should on the second tap. Multiple users are experiencing this issue and a moderator stated the investigation had initiated.
