Huawei surpassed Apple last year in the global smartphone share to be the second in the list. However, they are unable to keep the same momentum for their budget devices. Specifically made for price sensitive markets, the Honor sub-brand is always under constant threat from other Chinese OEMs.

Redmi from Xiaomi and Realme (backed by Oppo) release smartphones with the maximum specs-to-price ratio. The latter is doing it at an exponential rate to come up with new products blazingly fast. For the same reason, there is hardly any room left for another brand.

You can’t completely write off Honor, though. The company’s reputation has brought them a loyal following for the lineup. Moreover, the performance of the devices isn’t that bad to counteract the customer experience too.

Huawei has a custom Android overlay. They use the same platform for Honor phones as well. Known as EMUI, the heavily skinned version gets updated with security patches, bug fixes, and new features often (not often for all devices!!).

Of late, the company has pushed a new update to Honor 8X. Launched in September 2018 with Android 8.1, the phone already received EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. Moreover, the Honor India support confirmed the device’s eligibility for Android 10 exactly a month ago.

As for the currently circulating update, the package bumps EMUI version to 9.1.0.234. Weighing 132 MB, it brings quite a few fixes and optimizations (the size may vary based on your current version). You can read the complete changelog below.

As an Honor 8X user, you are disappointed, aren’t you? It’s already September and the package only contains security patches dated July. Within a few days, other brands will begin releasing September update. And, you, on the other hand, will have to live with the obsolete.

Let me give you a happy news while you devour the disappointment. Iron Man theme for EMUI 9/9.1 is now live. Apart from themed system applications, it brings new icons and wallpapers into the fore.

Returning to the Honor 8X update, it’s been a few days since the rollout started. Meaning, some of you may have already got it by now. In case you are still in the queue, don’t worry! The notification should flash on your screen soon. Happy installing! For more Honor-related stories, click here.
