This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..
Huawei recently changed their smartphone update policy introducing monthly & quarterly security patch programmes, wherein some phones will receive updates on monthly basis, while others on quarterly basis. As per the list, one such device that will be updated on quarterly basis is Honor Play.
Honor Play is the OEM’s 2018 high-end device powered by Hisilicon Kirin 970. The phone came with Android 8.1 (Oreo) layered with EMUI 8.2 and was upgraded to Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 in the beginning of this year.
While the device owners are expecting the latest EMUI 9.1, the phone recently got the June update instead, which bumped the version to 22.214.171.124. As per the company’s new EMUI update policy, Honor Play is expected to receive security updates on quarterly basis. Meaning, next update should be coming in September now.
But looks like the OEM doesn’t want users to wait for another couple months, and plans to push EMUI 9.1 to Honor Play devices soon. Reason being, the update is now up on the Firmware Finder. As per the information shared by a user, the update may bear build number 126.96.36.1990 (sized ~3.6GB).
Even Huawei EMUI’s official handle on Twitter is telling Honor Play users that “EMUI 9.1 update for Honor Play is being rolled out in the upcoming weeks.” That means, the update should be out sometime soon.
Moving on, Honor View 10 (aka Huawei Honor V10 in China) is supposed to receive updates on monthly basis as per Huawei’s new policy. 2018’s Honor View 10 is also fueled by HiSilicon Kirin 970. The phone originally shipped with Android Oreo and EMUI 8, it was upgraded to EMUI 9.0 this year.
And now, it awaits EMUI 9.1. Just like Honor Play, EMUI 9.1 update for Honor View 10 is also available on the Firmware Finder now. This information comes from a Redditor, according to whom the update is can be seen at least for the US region devices.
View 10 is currently running the June security patch bearing build number 188.8.131.52, and the new update (weighing 3.7GB) will bump the version to 184.108.40.2066.
All in all, among the list of Huawei/Honor phones to get EMUI 9.1, at least Honor Play and Honor View 10 should be upgraded in the coming weeks. Here’s hoping it happens soon. Rest assured, we are keeping a close watch and will let you know as and when the EMUI 9.1 updates get live.
