Remember the Samsung Galaxy S10 front camera zoomed in issue while using apps like Snapchat? As we mentioned earlier, the reason behind the messy and non-optimized output was the Snapchat app taking a screenshot of the viewfinder instead of using the actual camera stack.
While the camera zoomed in problem on Samsung Galaxy S10 devices awaits a fix, going by the information shared by Snapchat support on their official website, this glitch isn’t limited to Samsung phones. The issue may affect app users with devices like iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and Google Pixel 3.
While app devs are working to address the issue and improve Snapchat image quality, the support post says Samsung plans to address the camera zoomed in problem on Galaxy S10, S9 and Note 9 phones with new firmware updates. Here’s what Snapchat support’s official post on the matter reads:
If you are a Galaxy S10, S9 or Note 9 user experiencing a zoomed screen, Samsung has informed us that they are rolling out a system update containing a fix over the coming months. To receive the fix, make sure to keep your device updated with the latest device OS and latest Snapchat version.

While that’s good at least for Samsung phone users facing the selfie camera zoomed in bug, the support hasn’t shared any ETA for the problem to be fixed on other devices. Sad, but that’s how it currently stands.
New black bar issue
Moving on, as you may know, Galaxy S10 devices are receiving the June security update which brings the much awaited Night mode feature. On the other hand, Snapchat also recently updated their Android app. And since these updates got live, a new Snapchat issue is troubling Galaxy S10 users.
Snapchatters on Samsung Galaxy S10 phones are now complaining of a weird black bar showing at the bottom of the device’s screen. Snapchat is basically having issues to match the device’s aspect ratio, as can be seen in the following user shared image.
There’s lack of clarity as to whether it’s the system update or the app update which has triggered the black bar issue. But there’s higher likelihood the latter may have caused it, as a couple of users on May security patch with latest Snapchat app version also face the same glitch.
Reports are proliferating across online discussion platform Reddit, Twitter as well as the review section of the app’s Play Store listing’s page. Here are some for you to take a quick look at:
Was fine a couple days ago now suddenly the app isn’t filling the screen and has a big empty black area at the bottom Does anyone know how to fix this? I’ve tried forcing full screen in settings and I’ve restarted my phone and it’s still there.

Some users are speculating Snapchat broke the aspect ration while fixing the camera zoomed in issue. It’s also worth mentioning that a handful of users facing the black bar issue have confirmed the camera zoomed in issue appears to have been fixed or improved for them after the update.
