Asus is acting totally opposite to their reputation related to updates at least in case of the newest flagship phone ZenFone 6. Within few weeks from launch, the phone received its first major update (WW_16.1210.1904.115) which was mainly camera-centric.

From introducing features like controlling flip camera rotations with the volume key, to using Smart Key as shutter for taking pictures in the Camera mode, to enhanced image processing speed and quality for camera Super Night Mode & HDR+ Enhanced mode (HDR++), the update included all.

Couple of days after pushing the first patch, the Taiwanese OEM released a second update which bumped the version to 16.1210.1904.116. This patch enabled ‘Night mode’ on selfie and improved Auto brightness which at times acted glitchy on waking up the device from sleep.

Cut to now. A week later, this flip camera phone is receiving its third update, bearing build number WW_16.1210.1904.133. As per the announcement, this patch has been released worldwide, as well as for the European and Chinese variants of ZenFone 6 phones.

Coming to what new this update brings, ZenFone 6 users can now enable ‘Super Night mode’ on Ultra-wide camera. Other than that, weather can now be seen at the lockscreen. Camera rotation stability has been enhanced and UI animation as well as headphone sound quality have been optimized.

Here’s what the release notes reads:

Enable “Super Night mode” on Ultra-wide camera.
Get weather displayed on the lock screen.
Optimize translation strings in Setting.
Improve system stability.
Improve camera rotation stability.
Optimize UI Animation.
Optimize the headphone sound quality.

As usually is the case, the FOTA update will be pushed out in batches, and hence may take time to make it to all ZenFone 6 units.

ZenFone 6 has been in talks for its unusual flip camera design. And the pace at which company is pushing updates to the phone, one after another, is appreciable. Here’s hoping Asus treat the older devices in a similar manner. Anyway, enjoy the new/improved features on your ZenFone 6 unit.

Update 1 (June 25)

The same update (16.1210.1904.133) is now rolling out on the Indian variants of Asus 6Z.
