Second update within two days. Well, that was unexpected. Asus’ latest flagship phone ZenFone 6 (ZS630KL) just received its first major update (WW_16.1210.1904.115) a couple of days back. The update was mainly camera-centric.

It added the ability to control the flip camera rotations with the volume key, taking pictures in Camera mode using Smart Key as shutter, and also enhanced the image processing speed & quality for camera Super Night Mode & HDR+ Enhanced mode (HDR++).

As for the other changes the update brought, here’s what the complete release notes read:

【Release Note】
Camera Super Night Mode & HDR+ Enhanced mode(HDR++) performance Improvement on image processing speed and image quality
Add volume key functions: to control the flip camera rotation; set the volume key as “Shutter, Zoom, Flip camera” in Asus Camera’s settings manually.
Use smart key as shutter to take pictures in Camera mode.
Update default wallpaper and ringtone
Improve camera rotation stability
Optimize translation strings in Setting
Enable TaiwanMobile Volte, MTS Volte/VoWifi, and KDDI/ Docomo/SBM Volte

And now, a second update has been pushed to ZenFone 6 by the Taiwanese OEM that brings yet another popular camera-related feature – ‘Night mode’ on Selfie.

Its worth stressing that in our last coverage about the first ZenFone 6 update, we mentioned while the company has officially released an update bearing build number 16.1210.1904.115, some users in Italy however are getting a different version of the update i.e. 16.1210.1904.116.

The update that was rolled out in Italy did not state much in the changelog other than calling it a stability improvement update (as mentioned by TuttuAndroid which reported the update in Italy).

However, now the company has released the same build officially, and the change log notifies more than just stability improvements. The reason we are calling v16.1210.1904.116 the second update is it was released just yesterday, while the first update released on May 26 as per release notes.

Coming to what new this update brings, you can now enable ‘Night mode’ on selfie. It also improves Auto brightness, which at times acted glitchy on waking up the device from sleep. Here’s what the complete changelog reads:

【Release Note】
Enable “Night mode” on selfie.
Enhance the benchmark performance (it is recommended to open AI Boost and start benchmark)
Improve System Stability.
Improve Auto brightness occasionally fail after resuming the devices.

ZenFone has been the talk of the town for its unusual flip camera design. And the pace at which company is pushing updates to the phone, one after another, is appreciable. Hope they also treat the older devices in a similar manner. Anyway, enjoy the new/improved features on your ZenFone 6 unit.
