Before Backup and Sync came into picture, Google Drive and Google Photos had separate client applications on Mac/PC. These were the general clients available to both Gsuite and non GSuite customers.

Today, the company has started rolling out Drive File Stream for its Gsuite customers. Along with the launch, came an unexpected revelation from Google: it will soon end official support for old Drive client on both Mac/PC.

The company has announced that it will not brace old Google Drive client for Mac/PC after December 11, 2017. Not only this, they’ll completely close down the client on March 12, 2018. Google further added that by October, Drive users (Mac/PC) may be greeted by messages notifying them about the products departure.

Backup and Sync was launched as a common client for both Drive and Photos this year in July. And now the company is encouraging users to switch to the new client before the support for old client terminates.
