Seems like Samsung’s latest Galaxy S9 flagship smartphone isn’t playing well with the company’s own services.

First, it was Samsung Pay that went incompatible with the device (although, the problem was resolved quickly).

And now it’s coming to light that support for the SideSync service has been removed all together.

Official confirmation

SideSync’s page on Samsung’s official website clearly states that the service is not available for Galaxy S9 an S9+.

In a look out for more information, we stumbled upon some threads on different help forums, where S9 users shared that Samsung Support also confirmed the news to them.

I have just finished a live chat with Samsung Support and after some testing, I was told:
“Thank you so much for patiently waiting. Upon checking, we do apologise but at Sidesync is not compatible with S9 at the moment. Samsung are working on it as soon as possible for more improvements.”

One of the users also shared the notification that popped up on their system, clearly stating the service has been terminated.

Here’s how the user words it:

I logged in to my windows pc and an update popped up for sidesync. After it had updated it popped up a disclaimer about from the S9 on, sidesync will no longer support these phones and that samsung flow will incorporate a screen mirroring option in future update. Unfortunately there wasn’t an ETA mentioned for this and I’m kind of bummed right now

Wait for Samsung Flow

As clear from the notification you just saw, the company plans of substituting SideSync with Samsung Flow which ‘allows content and activity to be transferred to a different device’ (as per the official documentation).

Samsung Flow is currently not compatible with S9 (as can be seen in the proceeding user-shared screenshot).

Support for the same will be arriving in future, but not known when.

So with SideSync bidding adieu, it’s relieving that at least Samsung Flow will replace the same, but how successfully, that only time will tell.

Rest assured, we’ll keep a track of that as well.
