YouTube TV is finally bringing its long-overdue Multiview feature to Google Pixel phones and tablet, following its successful launch on iOS last month. This update allows users to watch up to four live streams simultaneously in a grid-like layout, perfect for sports fans who want to catch all the action or anyone who enjoys multitasking with their viewing.

Multiview was first introduced as a preview on smart TVs and streaming devices back in March 2023, with a focus on NFL Sunday Ticket content. The feature gradually became more widely available, and a year later, it officially arrived on iPhones and iPads. Now, Google Pixel and other Android users are joining the party, even sooner than the initially expected “coming months” timeframe.

While the ability to watch multiple live streams simultaneously might seem resource-intensive, YouTube assures users that it doesn’t require high-powered devices. The heavy processing is handled on YouTube’s servers, with your device only receiving a single live feed instead of multiple ones. This clever approach makes Multiview accessible to a wider range of devices.

It’s important to note that Multiview on YouTube TV is primarily focused on sports content for now, similar to how it functions on other platforms. However, this update marks a significant step forward for YouTube TV, potentially positioning it as a strong competitor in the live TV streaming market. While YouTube TV now offers Multiview on both Android and iOS, it’s worth mentioning that other streaming services have also been making strides in this area. Sling TV offers a related picture-in-picture feature, allowing users to watch multiple streams at once. Apple TV also has multiview support.

With Multiview rolling out on Android, YouTube TV is clearly aiming to enhance the viewing experience for its subscribers, especially sports fans. This update further intensifies the competition in the live TV streaming landscape, offering viewers more flexibility and control over their content consumption.
