Xiaomi released the camera-centric Mi CC9 in China in July and a month later, this same phone went global but with a tweaked name, the Mi 9 Lite. That’s classic Xiaomi, in case you didn’t know, but that’s not the purpose of this article.

Even though the Mi CC9 software is maintained differently from the Mi 9 Lite software, the similarities between the two phones mean that whatever happens to their software is related.

The Mi 9 Lite, having arrived to the party late, received its first software update in late September. It has since picked up a couple of other updates, with the most recent one tagging along the stable MIUI 11 update.

The Mi CC9 in China also received some software updates before eventually switching to the latest MIUI 11. But like the European/global Mi 9 Lite, the base OS remained the same – Android 9 Pie.

Now, in a new software update that is now rolling out to the Mi CC9 in China, owners of this device can finally try the new Android 10 OS, albeit in beta. The update, as expected, is based on MIUI 11.

The Mi 9 Lite Android 10 update is arriving as MIUI 11 beta version 9.11.12 and yeah, this version isn’t meant for the global and European models. Besides bumping the software to the new OS, you also get the latest security patch for November 2019 as part of the update.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
