Some people already know if and when their devices will be upgraded to Android 10. For those still in the dark, you might want to know that the OS is available for multiple premium devices released within the past year.
Older models like Samsung Galaxy Note 9/S9, Xiaomi Mi 8, and even entry-level devices like the Galaxy A30 and Mi A2 have picked up the update as well. Although many others await their turn, even many others will be sitting out this system upgrade.
In the latter camp is the popular Xiaomi Mi A1, a device that sparked the current trajectory of Android One back in 2017. It came preinstalled with Android Nougat and currently sits on Pie, the second and last major OS upgrade for the device.
Not that we expected an official Mi A1 Android 10 update from Xiaomi, but if other Snapdragon 625-powered devices like Moto One and Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite are in line to receive Android 10, why not give the Mi A1 a run while at it as well?
Unfortunately, we don’t make the rules. On the brighter side, though, the open-source nature of Android allows us the freedom to seek other havens and a popular one is the Lineage OS project.
Since the official Mi A1 Android 10 update isn’t coming, you probably have no reason to stick with the official ROM. With a switch to Lineage OS, your Mi A1 is not only guaranteed an update to Android 10, but it also stands a chance of getting Android 11.
Matter of fact, interested Mi A1 owners can already flash Android 10-based Lineage OS 17.1 ROM to the device right now. All you need is to download the latest build from this XDA thread, reboot to recovery mode, flash the build and latest GApps, and reboot into Android 10.
The unofficial Mi A1 Android 10 update currently works fine, be it RIL, fingerprint scanner, wireless connections, camera, audio, sensors, GPS, and so on. But of course, you can always expect to bump into one or two bugs from time to time.
Android 10 for Galaxy J7 2017 & Xperia Z5 Premium
Just like the Mi A1, the Android 10-based Lineage OS 17.1 update is also available for other 2017 handsets in the shape of Samsung Galaxy J5 (SM-J530X) and Galaxy J7 (SM-J730X) and an even much older Xperia Z5 Premium from way back in 2015.
While the Xperia Z5 Premium Lineage OS 17.1 package is still in beta, those on the Galaxy J5/J7 2017 are getting what is reportedly a stable build. But again, these are unofficial software updates so bugs and errors can’t be avoided whatsoever.
