The stable Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and Mi 9 SE Android 10 updates rolled out in China over a month ago. The update hit the former device first before arriving on the latter a couple of days later.

The updates arrived around the same time the pair’s superior counterparts, the Mi 8 and the Mi 9, were receiving their stable updates to Android 10. However, for some reason, it seems the Mi 8 SE and Mi 9 SE Android 10 updates never got to roll out widely.

Mi 9 SE

This is about to change, though. A pair of new firmware updates belonging to the Mi 8 and the Mi 9 SE have popped up online. The new MIUI 11 ROMs are based on Android 10 and unlike the previous versions, you get new security updates for the month of February 2020, the latest available.

Unlike the Mi 9 SE, the Mi 8 SE is limited to the Chinese market. Granted, the incoming update, which has MIUI version 11.0.2.0.QEBCNXM, is also limited to this market. Below is the summarized changelog:

System
– Stable MIUI based on Android 10
– Updated Android Security Patch to February 2020. Increased system security.
Status bar, Notification shade
– Fix: Couldn’t open notification settings in the Notification shade in Second space
Data usage
– Fix: Data usage warning appeared multiple times
– Fix: Errors occurred after switching SIM cards
Other
– Fix: Images overlapped in scrolling screenshots

The download link for the new Mi 8 SE firmware can also be found below for those who don’t want to wait for the OTA update to arrive.

For owners of the global, European, and Russian variants, the incoming Mi 9 SE Android 10 update has little to do with you. The rollout is currently limited to the Chinese variant, but it does give us an idea of how long the wait is going to take.

The update is arriving as MIUI version 11.0.2.0.QFBCNXM and includes the following changes:

System
– Stable MIUI based on Android 10
– Updated Android Security Patch to February 2020. Increased system security.
Status bar, Notification shade

– Fix: Couldn’t open the Notification shade in some cases

Similar to the Mi 8 SE, we also have the download link for the new firmware so that you don’t have to wait for ages for the OTA to arrive like those using non-China variants.

It’s worth noting that Mi 8 SE and Mi 9 SE owners who had already picked up Android 10 updates with the first rollout will get a small OTA update that bumps the security patch level to February 2020 and also fixes previously identified bugs in the firmware.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
