Wizz App is a popular ‘Tinder’ style service for meeting new people online, swiping between profiles until you find a match. However, suddenly the app has been removed from both the Play Store and the App Store, with the developers citing a ‘technical issue’ as the cause. That said, there are also users who point to an alleged lax moderation that was not careful enough with what was happening in the app as another potential reason for the ‘ban’.

The Wizz App dev team took their official Instagram account to notify that the app has been removed from the Apple App Store, although the same can be applied to Android since the link corresponding to the Play Store is currently broken too. In their Instagram Story, they even claim that the service will be available again ‘very soon’, but it’s already been 15 hours (at the time of writing this story) since they posted it, which is a pretty long time to fix a ‘technical issue’.

In addition to the time that Wizz App has been out of the main mobile app stores, it is quite intriguing that it was removed from both at the same time. Normally, when it comes to technical difficulties, the apps are usually down or the servers are unavailable, but their listing in the stores is still up. Therefore, this has led several users to suspect other reasons for the removal of Wizz App: some shady situations that have been reported in recent weeks.

Another alleged reason why Wizz App could have been removed from Play Store and App Store

More specifically, it seems that the moderation system has not been sufficiently cautious, which has apparently led to cases of alleged ‘sextortion’ where even minors have been involved. It should be noted that the Wizz App target are teenagers and young adults, so these situations could happen if appropriate security measures were not set from the beginning. Due to this, there are users who see the app’s ban as something positive, and even believe that it should have happened much earlier.

At the moment, it is not known whether the Wizz App will be available again in the Play Store or the App Store. If suspicions about possible illegal activities are confirmed, it seems unlikely that this will happen. For now, we just have to wait and see how events develop to know exactly what is happening around the service.
